Toyota car parts compatible with Lexus and vice versa?

Was just arguing with a buddy he thinks that many Lexus vehicles are the same as Toyota vehicles like Camary and Avalon. I know they have their similarities but he thinks that you can just swap out head lights, tail lights, and engines and with perfect fittment. Is this true? Yes you can. I own an Avalon and for example the front lower suspension bars are shared by the Camry, Avalon, Sienna, RX300 and ES300.
