I have a 1998 toyota corolla and no engine i want to make it in to a tuner car but i do not know what engine could fit and be a very good tuner engine. What good tuner engine could fit a 1998 toyota corolla? The USDM Corollas will not accept a 4A-GE only the JDM models came with an A-series engine. The U.S. Corollas used the 1ZZ-FE, a direct replacement for this engine would be the 2ZZ-GE out of a Celica GT-S made between 2000-2005 it has a good aftermarket support, and is capable of decent amounts of power.
If you arent in the U.S. then you need to determain if your car came with an A-series engine, the available options in Japan were the 4A-GE and the 4A-FE. If thats the case then look for a 20 valve 4A-GE or a 4A-GZE. However I suspect you are in the U.S. If that is the case then you need the 2ZZ-GE, you could bolt in a 4A-GE however it makes less power than the ZZ powerplant and will require much more work as the mounts are somewhat different.
4A-GE (16 Valve) - 112 hp
4A-GE (20 Valve) - 160 hp
4A-GZE (Supercharged) - 145 hp
1ZZ-FE (Non-VVT) - 120 hp
1ZZ-FE (VVT) - 125 hp
2ZZ-GE (VVTLi) - 180 hp
In case you dont know VVT = Variable Valve Timing
VVT-i = Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence
VVTL-i = Variable Valve Timing with Lift and Intelligence
2ZZ-GE's come with a short ratio six speed transmission (a C60) in the Celica, the Corolla also uses a C-series transmission so they will interchange. What good tuner engine could fit a 1998 toyota corolla?Any 4AG engine will make a difference. The venerable 4A-GE is a great starting point. There's also the 4A-GZE, supercharged engine and the 4AG-20, 20-valve engine is a wonder to behold!! These engines are the Corolla's answer to the Civics B-series. They are performance twin cam and with the exception of the AG-20, these are 16 valve motors. What good tuner engine could fit a 1998 toyota corolla? It doesn't matter in the end, a Corolla isn't much of a platform. Your money is better spent on a different car, especially an engines worth. What good tuner engine could fit a 1998 toyota corolla?
Sell it and buy something that will hold a Chevy V8. It's got more performance potential than any engine in the world.
