What is a better buy, 2005 Toyota Matrix or 2007 Hyundai Elantra?

I am buying a used car, and I have narrowed my options down to a sharp looking 2005 Toyota Matrix and an even sharper 2007 Hyundai Elantra. Both are $8,999. This idea that Toyota is automatically better just because they are Toyota is way overplayed.
