Do you have to get your car serviced at toyota to avoid issues with the warranty?

i bought my yaris at a toyota a year ago and they told me i needed to get the car service there only in order for the warranty to cover me. my dad says i can take my car to get service any place i choose( like jiffy lube, kragens where they are way cheaper, and it wont affect my warranty . is this accurate?Do you have to get your car serviced at toyota to avoid issues with the warranty? If you're in the US, look into the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Essentially, if a manufacturer is to require you to use only them for regular maintenance in order to keep the warranty, then they must also provide that maintenance for free. (No sales tie-in provisions to upkeep the warranty.) Since Toyota is not providing the free service, they cannot require you to use their dealers for oil changes to upkeep your warranty. So, as long as you can provide proof that the required maintenance work is performed (date/mileage on a receipt), you can have the work done at any dealer, independent shop, quickie-lube place, backyard mechanic, or DIY, and the warranty will be fine.

Since most of the services are just an oil/filter change and tire rotation, if inclined you can DIY, or just go to your favorite mechanic, if they're cheaper.

If you lost your scheduled maintenance booklet (owner's manual supplement), then you can view it at:

you can take it anywhere you want for oil changes, and maintence(keep the bill to prove to the dealer you do your maint)but if lets say you need work done thats underwarrenty go to the dealer, and of course if you go to jiffy lub for a oil change and they mess your motor up,go back to them not the dealership, cause they should warrenty it,if its a motor brake down internal, prove you do your oil cjanges(anywher as long as its the proper oil and new filter)they will warrenty but if its cause by some one els it will not be (like oil came out cause plug wasnt tight, wheel falles off cause walmart dude didnt tighten it enough)Do you have to get your car serviced at toyota to avoid issues with the warranty? As long as you take your Toyota to a reputable place like Jiffy Lube (save the receipts!) you will have no problem. Sounds like the service dept. is trying to drum up business!

Read the warranty book to make sure. I have never heard of this before from Toyota.Do you have to get your car serviced at toyota to avoid issues with the warranty?
Don't go to Jiffy Lube or other ones like that. Go to a dealership or a mechanic your friends and family go too.

Toyota is lying. Just take it to a trustworthy shop. It will not void the warranty.Do you have to get your car serviced at toyota to avoid issues with the warranty?just go anywhere, as long as you can prove you've done the oil change, which means, keep the receipts.
