I believe people were just too dumb to put the car in neutral, take the keys out/hold the push start for 5 seconds, or just didnt think of the situation. Who was at fault is still something the investigators are years away from solving. They were not treated bad or good at the hearings. I think the Pres of Toyota said it best when his company clearly was trying to dominate the global market w/ their product %26amp; not concentrating on quality. GM tried the same crap %26amp; look where they are at. Literally having to start over. But I'm sure Toyota will fall in line w/ GM %26amp; make better cars. It was a wake up call that you cannot fool consumers very long. They demand %26amp; require quality from whatever they are buying. You don't always have 5 seconds of time. You don't even have the luxury to plan ahead and expect the malfunction to manifest just when you are ready.

They were let off far too easily since the cars with defective ball joints were recalled in Japan a FULL YEAR BEFORE they decided to spare American lives also and recall them here. That sounds like a criminal act.
