Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year?

Toyota earned 8 of the top ten spots so far at Daytona. Is this Toyota's year?

Im a huge TOny fan and Im not alll that happy with Toyota even being in Nascar, but you can't ignore what TOyota is doing.Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year? No. Plate races are the biggest equalizer out there. Those tracks are all about how good at drafting the driver is. Toyota was fast at plate races last year too at least in qualifying.

You could give a good plate race driver a Yugo and he could run up front with it.

Most good teams will sandbag in practice for Daytona. Its not uncommon to see some guy you never heard of with a team you never heard of up front because they are running as hard as they can. The major teams don't do this.Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year?
They will be better but they certainly aren't going to dominate just because they were fastest at a test session with no inspections. Where other teams are testing and tweaking setups and different packages, Toyota is still developing them. JGR was a HUGE addition to the Toyota family and will surely drag them into credibility, it's just not going to happen overnight.Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year?It may not,

Every car and driver have different results at each track.

Example- They may be good at intermediate tracks, but horrible at superspeedways.

It all depends on the driver and the team.
No...Last Year Toyota put up impressive speeds at Daytona and they really struggled throughout the season. Plus Daytona is a restrictor plate track. Basically you race what you build, there is little to no adjusting a restrictor plate car especially now that its the COT. They will be improved by dont expect them to compete for the title. Tony may sneak into the chase but they still need a few years.Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year? They are doing pretty good in testing, but it is still just testing. Anything can happen as we all know. I can say one thing I am not a fan of the Toyota's or Tony but when the rumors started swirling about him all upset and threatening to leave if they went to Toyota I was almost forced to give the guy some credit. Obviously it didn't happen.Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year?
i agree with your ideas about Toyota and im a hardcore Tony fan. SOooooo just keep yer eyes on Smoke because i think he'll dictate just how well/which direction the TOY cars will go in and how well they will do.
They have definately improved but it is too early. I believe we will see if the Toyotas durability issues of last year are solved once the racing season begins. They have found some much needed speed, only time will tell in the long run. The JGR team with its drivers are the best thing that has happened to Toyota so far!!!!!Do you think the testing results at Daytona will predict Toyota's performance this year?
maybe
I think they will do good if their motors hold up for an entire race. They blew a lot of motors last year.
No doubt Toyota is better with the JGR engine development these past few months. The problem is the restrictor plates are a big equalizer, they make the engines fairly equal. We wont see a true test until they run on unrestricted tracks.

Toyota's did well at the last plate race and I'm sure a couple will run well at Daytona. Don't expect the race results to look anything like the test results though.
Yes, they are having some great testing speeds, but its practice, they will do okay but will not dominate...
hey there googly eyes!
Japanese have alot of money to throw around !!! But NASCAR has it's own way's,to keep them from dominating...

Not saying they won't win a race or two this year !
I think it qualifies what some experts have said: that Toyota has no problem with horsepower.

It will come down to setups and dialing in. If they can accomplish the right setups for the different style tracks, they will be competitive.

I doubt an organization like Joe Gibbs Racing would jump on the "Toyota bandwagon" if they didn't see promise in the end product.
Testing at the large restrictor plate tracks is decieving. Top speeds really have no bearing on what to expect. There might be teams working on top speed so that they can qualify for the race such as most of the toyota teams while other teams who are locked in can afford to work on Drafting setups. Also during this testing the teams are using two car. What is apparant is that they are further along then they were last year at this time. Still the big reason for there speed early on is the fact that most of their cars need to qualify to make the race so it is all or nothing.
No way will it tell the performance of their season. Daytona is a superspeedway, there are other kinds such as short tracks, speedways, road courses and if toyota does great on a superspeedway, like daytona, what makes you think they will do good on other kinds of tracks. Like last year with waltrip he made 500 and got pole for a talladega race but look at his other races last year, horrible!
