1989 toyota 4wd 6 cyl. pickup does not start well in cold weather, i have to turn started over for many minutes before it starts, once running it is fine, in warm weather no problems starting???1989 toyota 4wd 6 cyl. pickup does not start well in cold weather, i have to turn started over for many minuteWhen you try to start it, does it turn over normally with some umph, or does it kind of lug like its having trouble turning? If it is, it might be the battery. Batteries need to be replaced every few years and their age first shows during the colder months.

If that's not the case, my guess would be that this is a fueling issue. An engine needs extra fuel to start, and the colder it is, the more fuel it needs. When you first start an engine in the morning, the fuel is so cold that it doesn't vaporize well thus requiring more fuel to counter act this. This can make starting in the cold be a real challenge.

I would do two things. First, replace the fuel filter. You can either do this yourself as its pretty easy to do, or you can bring it to a mechanic and have them do it. Next, get some fuel system cleaner. I recommend using Sea Foam and putting it not only in your fuel fuel, but also in your intake and engine oil as described here: http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpT鈥?/a>

You can get it at many major hardware stores and it works like magic on both carbureted and FI engines.
