100,000 = about 62,000 miles right? Ask, (and hopefully believe the previous owner), when they changed the oil. or look for receipts. Look at the general condition of the car. If owner garaged, and or kept really clean, more than likely a car freak like myself and religously changed the oil. Which can be the most important thing! Look at dipstick for oil, should light brown and should not smell of gas, and tranny dipstick, should be RED, not Brown. These will give you sense of how the car was taken car of too.
Today's fuel injected cars control air gas mix better than old carb models. older carb models would drip gas and make a wear out spot on the piston. Any car can burn a liter / (qt) every 3000 miles(5000KM) but I do not think you should have that problem at least at first.
Do not change oil viscosity on car until you truely need to. Todays engine tolerances are so much closer, putting in higher oils such as 20W-50 will cause problems. (heavier oils for old cars and race cars and such, with more ring slop). How long will a Toyota engine last?
Good thorough answer. But I believe your #'s are short. A toyota engine, when not abused (overheated or short on oil) will last approx double your estimates.
Not a guess..my personal experiences with my 7 Toyotas... :)

How long will a Toyota engine last?It will last a long time--gas mileage should be a little worse but nothing to scream at mom about, the only suggestion I have is to know if the timing belt has been replaced.100000 miles is when it's due and if it hasn't been done then do it! with some engines if the timing belt breaks then the motor goes to the crapper-imports being more likely than domestic.what happens is the valves hit the piston(bad bad stuff)so if you are buying a car at 100000 miles then chances are someone doesn't want to pay for a new timing belt and they are passing that expense on to you.Oh and about that oil thing, chances are that it wont burn enough oil to worry about between oil changes.good luckToyotas will EASILY last 250,000-300,000 miles. Don't worry about the OD so much, Toyotas are great cars %26amp; will last for a LONG time with proper maintenance. How long will a Toyota engine last?We had a 95 Camry that had 170,000 miles on it when we sold it.How long will a Toyota engine last?
the usually dont burn oil..its still not even half way done!!! you should get another 150k at least!!!
as long as it has been taken care of... i would say 250000+How long will a Toyota engine last?
i'm looking at buying a '98 camry with 230,000 miles on it next week
I owned a 1984 Toyota truck with the 22RE motor/Auto in it and it only lasted about 2500 miles before I was replacing it with another one. First model 22RE's have MAJOR design flaws STAY FAR FAR away from this motor. The 22R however is a VERY good reliable motor. My second truck was an 85 $x$ with a 22R and 5 speed. That motr was Awesome except I kept blowing the Transmission out in it.
make sure you change the timing belt at 100k km, try using ticker lub oil 20/40w , 20/50w could help also to prolonged the chances of overhauling, remember to use oem lub oil filters also, paying attention to the air filter is also important to the issue.
with this you could make it through 150k to 180k km,
thats what i did to my landcruiser running on 1KZ motor.
hope it helps, Merry Christmas
as long as it hasnt been ran hard, not for awhile
In my experiences, a Toyota engine needs to have the timing (belt, chain)? replaced at about 150,000 miles (240,000 km). If you don't do this, it will suddenly give out and when it does, you have to pull over immediately and shut off the car or you will destroy the engine. As for burning oil, I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you check the oil level regularly and keep it where it is supposed to be.
i own a repair shop, and the longest i ever seen one go was 485 thousand miles ,,ans that was on a 78 Toyota corolla with a carburetor on it,,i owned it for a few of those miles,,and i sold it when it hit the 200 thousand mile mark,,i thought it was worn out,but not so,,as far as i know its still going today a little rusty,,but still running good
